The Biju Janata Dal launched a scathing attack on the Mohan Majhi Government alleging that law and order situation completely collapsed with 40,947 cases of crimes against women registered in the last 18 months and incompetent administration led to drastic revenue fall.

As the year 2025 ended on Wednesday (December 31, 2025), the BJD expressed its shock over “unjustified and alarming” rise in crimes against women.

Addressing press conference Sasmit Patra, BJD Rajya Sabha member, charged over the last 18 months of BJP rule, Odisha earned notoriety not only within the State but also at the national level for one reason alone—the complete breakdown of its law and order machinery.

“Due to the BJP government’s evasive and delaying tactics in delivering justice, the law and order situation in the State has continued to worsen day by day. In the last 18 months alone, 40,947 cases of crimes against women have been registered in the State, clearly reflecting the deteriorating law and order situation,” said Mr. Patra.

“Whether it is the Gopalpur gang rape case, the rape and murder of a minor in Rourkela, the Baliharachandi gang rape case, or the Dhauli gang rape case, all these incidents have been widely reported in the country, bringing shame and condemnation to Odisha. Additionally, Odisha has earned the dubious distinction of being ranked as the eighth most crime-prone State in the country,” he pointed out.

On State’s finance situation, BJD leaders said, “revenue from major minerals has declined from ₹50,000 crore to ₹34,000 crore, while revenue from minor minerals has fallen from ₹1,485 crore to ₹600 crore.”

“Recruitment examinations conducted by the State government are not being held properly, and in the last 18 months, the government has been forced to cancel 20 examinations. The State was compelled to hand over the investigation to the CBI,” said Lenin Mohanty, BJD spokesperson.

Despite the Home Department being directly under the Chief Minister, the so-called double-engine government has completely failed to maintain law and order in the state, he alleged.
