More than 400 personnel of the elite Tripura State Rifles (TSR) will provide security during the two-phase Bihar Assembly election. A senior official of Tripura’s Home Department said the TSR contingent, led by Commandant Jyotishman Daschoudhuri, left for Bihar by a special train on Friday (October 24, 2025) night. The contingent is expected to reach Patna by October 27 morning.

“They will provide security during both phases of the Bihar polls, according to the Election Commission’s deployment plan,” the official said.

The first phase of polling in Bihar, covering 121 of the 243 Assembly constituencies, will take place on November 6. The second phase on November 11, 2025 will cover the remaining 122 seats.

The TSR has been providing security during elections and other major events across the country. The force has 14 battalions, most of which are India Reserve Battalions that can be deployed in any State, if required by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

Two TSR battalions, comprising about 2,000 personnel, including officers, have been posted out of Tripura. One battalion has been working under the Delhi Police since 2019, while another is engaged in Chhattisgarh’s South Eastern Coalfields Limited since 2022.

The TSR was raised in 1983 on the pattern of the Central paramilitary forces to deal with Tripura’s growing extremism problem. Its personnel are trained in counter-insurgency operations.
