Members of All India Democratic Youth Organisation (AIDYO) organised the birth anniversary of Bhagat Singh on the Karnatak University Grounds in Dharwad on Sunday.
Youth paid floral tribute to Bhagat Singh.
AIDYO district president Bhavani Shankar Gowda said that it is important to understand Bhagat Singh’s life of struggle, ideals and ideology.
“At a very young age, Bhagat Singh plunged into the freedom movement. Inspired by the socialist revolution that took place in Russia in 1917, he envisioned not only driving the British out of India but also building a socialist society free from exploitation. He aspired for a system that will ensure education, healthcare and social security for all. Unfortunately, his aspirations remain unfulfilled,” he said.
“He stood for a secular, socialist India,” he said.
“However, after Independence, capitalism took root in India, making the lives of common people miserable. All political parties that came to power safeguarded the interests of capitalists. Education and healthcare have been completely privatised and are now beyond the reach of ordinary people. Rising prices and unemployment continue to trouble citizens, while atrocities against women have escalated,” he said.
“Instead of addressing these issues, conspiracies are being hatched to trap youth in vices such as obscenity, alcoholism, online gaming, betting and drugs. At the same time, efforts are being made to divide youth in the name of caste, religion, language and region. In this context, it is the duty of young people to defeat these conspiracies, uphold high moral values and character and strive towards building the socialist India that Bhagat Singh dreamt of. That would be the true tribute to him,” he said.
AIDYO district convenor Preeti Singadi, Pratap Singh Jadhav and others participated.
