When a group of Kudumbashree workers and officials took a flight from Kochi and landed in Bengaluru on Wednesday, they hoped to create memories to cherish forever. However, fate had other plans as their long-awaited trip ended up in a tragedy that claimed the lives of two of them.

Latha K.K., 57, and Smitha Raghu, 47, who are among those killed after the compound wall of a hospital collapsed during heavy rain in Bengaluru’s Shivajinagar, were part of a group of 46 Kudumbashree workers who had been longing for a flight journey. The group comprised members of Kudumbashree units from different parts of Ernakulam district producing Amrutham Nutrimix, a food supplement for children. They were accompanied by 10 officials from the District Kudumbashree Mission.
