In what is clearly a tectonic turn in Tamil Nadu politics, the fledgling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) led by actor Joseph C. Vijay has emerged as the single largest party in the 2026 Assembly elections, securing leads in 101 of the 234 constituencies, tantalisingly close to the majority mark of 118, with a vote share of nearly 34% in the roughly 12.5% of votes counted so far (as of 11:00 AM).

The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and its Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) partners have been pushed to a distant third with leads in just 47 seats, while the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) coalition, comprising the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) among others, has emerged second with leads in 76 seats.
