One person was killed and two others injured in an accident near Neyyattinkara in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, after a KSRTC bus lost control and crashed into a roadside waiting shelter on Monday.

The bus, which was headed from Kanjiramkulam to Neyyattinkara, reportedly went out of control near the Avanakuzhi junction and rammed the bus waiting shed. The impact caused the structure to collapse.

As the shelter collapsed, it fell onto three autorickshaws that were parked at a nearby auto stand. The drivers were inside their vehicles at the time of the accident.

Sudhakaran, a resident of Manaluvila, who was seated in one of the autorickshaws, was trapped inside the vehicle after the structure fell on it. He was later pulled out by local residents and rushed to Neyyattinkara General Hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries.

The other injured drivers were also admitted to hospital for treatment. A few passers-by also sustained minor injuries in the mishap. The autorickshaws were completely damaged in the incident.

A police officer said a major tragedy was averted as there were no passengers waiting inside the bus shelter at the time of the accident.
