Andhra Pradesh Teachers Federation (APTF) filed a review petition in the Supreme Court (SC) seeking exemption from the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET).

The federation’s State president G. Hrudaya Raju and general secretary S. Chiranjeevi on Thursday referred to the Supreme Court’s ruling given on September 1, 2025, stating that even teachers appointed before the implementation of the Right to Education Act, 2020, must compulsorily pass the TET.

They said that challenging the SC judgement, the APTF had filed a review petition in the apex court seeking exemption from the mandatory requirement to pass the test. The federation leaders urged the State government also to file a review petition in the Supreme Court and make efforts to secure the TET exemption.

They also appealed to the government to exert pressure on the Central government to amend the 2017 Act so that all headmasters and teachers appointed through various DSCs prior to 2020 are granted exemption from the TET requirement.

GO issued

The A.P. government, meanwhile, issued a G.O. (No. 36) on Thursday on the guidelines to be followed for conducting Andhra Pradesh State Teacher Eligibility Test (APTET) under the Right to Education Act, 2009.

The GO referred to the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) guidelines, which mentioned that clearance of TET is mandatory for all those aspiring to be teachers in government or private management schools to ensure national standards and benchmark of teacher quality in the recruitment process.

It also cited the Supreme Court judgement in a civil appeal, which said that in-service teachers who were recruited prior to the enactment of the RTE Act, and who have more than five years of service left before superannuation must qualify in the TET. The GO said that in-service teachers, therefore, should appear for TET to acquire requisite qualification in the current position.
