Outsourcing employees working in the A.P. State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) should be paid on par with those working in other government departments, demanded AITUC State general secretary S. Venkata Subbayya on Monday (July 27, 2026).
He was speaking during a ‘Chalo Vijayawada’ protest, called by the APSRTC Outsourcing Employees’ Union and All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC). After the demonstration at the Dharna Chowk in the city, a public meeting was held.
Pointing out that there are around 8,000 outsourcing employees working in APSRTC across the state, Mr. Venkata Subbayya stated that since the employees are paid through contractors, they have faced numerous irregularities in the implementation of their rights, including payment of wages, Provident Fund (PF), Employees’ State Insurance (ESI), and other legal benefits.
He added that while several representations have been submitted to the State government and APSRTC management regarding the issues faced by RTC hired-bus drivers and on-call drivers, no satisfactory action has been taken so far.
Outsourcing Employees’ Union State general secretary D. Ganga Anjaneyulu said that outsourcing employees working in APSRTC should be provided job security. He demanded that the government’s decision to privatise RTC operations through private electric buses be withdrawn.
The State Committee members warned that if their issues are not addressed immediately, they would not hesitate to launch a State-wide strike and intensify the agitation.
