The Andhra Pradesh government has set a target of generating ₹220 crore from mining activities in Prakasam district, said Collector P. Rajababu, while inspecting a granite quarry along with Santhanuthalapadu MLA B.N. Vijay Kumar in Chimakurthi town on Wednesday. He added that ₹180 crore was generated from mining in the district last year

Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said steps are being taken by the government to increase income from mining activities in the district. He directed mine owners to focus on the management of mining waste and emphasised the importance of taking care of the health of the mining workers.

He said that the district authorities are on the job to identify a place to dump mining waste and assured mining owners that the administration will always be at the forefront to resolve their problems. He further warned that strict action will be taken against erring officials and directed them to carry out online land process as per the rules.

Speaking to the miners, MLA B.N. Vijay Kumar said, “Mining activities must be carried out without causing any inconvenience to the people. The government is focussing on meeting the needs of people by utilising District Mineral Foundation (DMF) funds. Field visits will be made every month to ensure that the government provides necessary assistance to mine owners.” “In matters regarding environmental pollution and healthcare of workers, mine owners should not violate any rules,” he added. Earlier, the Mining Department officials explained the process of extracting granite stones in the quarry to the Collector and the MLA.
