Hyderabad Disaster Response & Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) received 59 grievances during its weekly Prajavani programme on Monday (February 16, 2026), with complaints relating not only to encroachments on lakes, nalas, roads, parks, government lands and public-use sites, but also to potential fire hazards in residential areas.

Oxygen cylinders in basements

Several residents raised concerns over plastic and scrap shops operating close to houses, storage of inflammable materials in cellars, and commercial establishments functioning in residential buildings. Complainants urged HYDRAA to conduct immediate inspections and prevent fire accidents. HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath reviewed all 59 petitions and assigned them to the respective officials for redressal.

Residents of Jubilee Hills Road No. 44 alleged that commercial activities in residential zones, including textile and furniture shops, posed fire risks. They complained that oxygen cylinders were stored in basements and sought urgent inspections.

Food outlets in ground floor, hostels in upper floors in Madhapur

In Madhapur, residents reported that hostels operated on upper floors while hotels, fast-food centres and canteens functioned on the ground floor, warning of severe consequences in the event of a fire. They sought strict enforcement of fire safety norms.

In Bachupally of Medchal–Malkajgiri district, locals expressed concern that a stormwater drain being linked to a sewer line passing through Pragathinagar for a road expansion project could increase flood risk, urging corrective measures during construction.

In Ramachandrapuram division of Sangareddy district, residents of Srinivasa Nagar alleged encroachment on government land earmarked for public use.

Encroachment in Kondapur village

Similarly, residents of Rajarajeshwari Nagar in Kondapur village, Serilingampally mandal, complained of encroachments on parks, roads and lands meant for a school (3,600 sq. yards), college (4 acres), community hall (2,181 sq. yards) and parkland (4,387 sq. yards), and sought immediate protection of these properties.
