Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Saturday said the Tamil Nadu government will witness more welfare schemes, especially for women and children, under the “Dravidian Model 2.0” governance for the next five years

After inaugurating 11 completed works worth ₹3.65 crore in Tirupattur, Mr. Udhayanidhi said achieving zero percent in school dropout rates in the State, construction of an additional eight lakh new houses for the poor, and creation of an additional 50 lakh jobs for unemployed educated youth in the State are priorities of the Dravidian Model 2.0 government.

“Under Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s leadership, Tamil Nadu has achieved 11.90% growth rate, making it one of the leading States to achieve such economic progress in the country,” he said.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that three lakh houses had been built under the Kalaignar Kanavu Illam scheme so far; 12 lakh students of government colleges were given ₹1,000 every month as financial assistance and 28 lakh children were provided with better nourishment under the Chief Minister Breakfast Scheme in the State. “Members of women self-help groups (SHGs) can travel with 25kg goods over 100km on government buses in the State which has around four lakh SHGs. In fact, over 24 lakhs free patta for landless poor have been given since 2021,” he said.

Mr. Udhayanidhi said that the State has been creating social and industrial infrastructure for all-round development. The government has also initiated steps to take care of marginalised sections in the society. For example, opportunities were created for persons with disabilities to be represented in rural local bodies like panchayats where their voices can be heard, he said.

The Deputy Chief Minister also distributed welfare assistance to the tune of ₹100.49 crore to 4,946 beneficiaries. He also opened two Kalaignar public libraries in the district.

On the occasion, E.V. Velu, Minister for Public Works, D.M. Kathir Anand and C.N. Annadurai, MPs for Vellore and Tiruvannamalai respectively, K. Sivasoundaravalli, Tirupattur Collector, was present.
