The Andhra Pradesh police arrested the then Crime Investigation Department (CID) DIG M. Sunil Kumar Naik, in the alleged custodial torture of former Narsapuram Parliament Member, K. Raghu Rama Krishna Raju, who is the present Deputy Speaker of the AP Legislative Assembly.

Mr. Sunil Kumar Naik, a 2005 batch IPS Officer, belonged to Bihar cadre. He is serving as Inspector General of Police (IGP) in Fire Services Department in Bihar now.

Based on the complaint lodged by Nagarampalem police in Guntur district, police had registered cases against former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, and three IPS officers, including Sunil Kumar Naik.

“A team of police arrested Mr. Sunil Kumar Naik, in Bihar, in the early hours on Monday (February 23). He was being brought to AP,” Guntur district Superintendent of Police (SP) Vakul Jindal told The Hindu on Monday. (February 23, 2026)

Mr. Raghu Rama Krishna Raju, present Undi MLA, lodged a complaint with Guntur police, who registered a case on July 11, 2024, under Section 307 IPC (Attempt to Murder), Section 326 IPC (Causing grievous hurt using dangerous weapons) and other charges.

“Sunil Kumar Naik was Accused No.7 in the alleged custodial torture case. He should be examined in the case for collecting more evidence,” a police officer investigating the case said.
