Travellers should brace for a costlier summer break as airfares have surged over 40% this April, rising even higher on leisure routes, as tensions in West Asia push up aviation turbine fuel costs and intensify operational challenges for airlines globally.

According to data from travel booking portal Cleartrip, a Delhi-Mumbai ticket that averaged ₹6,000 in April 2025 now costs around ₹8,400 — a 40% jump. Bengaluru-Delhi and Mumbai-Chennai routes have seen similar spikes of 41% and 42% with fares averaging at ₹8,200 and ₹7,800.
