AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Saturday (March 7, 2026) announced that Anna Thozhirsanga Peravai, the transport department workers’ union of his party, will hold a demonstration on March 13, condemning the DMK government for not considering the demands of workers of transport corporations.
He said the protest will be spearheaded by former Minister D. Jayakumar and will be held in front of Pallavan Illam, the headquarters of the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) in Chennai.
In a statement, Mr. Palaniswami said the DMK government had failed to consider the just demands of workers of transport corporations, including the implementation of the wage revision agreement and surrender leave benefits. During the AIADMK regimes headed by former Chief Ministers M.G. Ramachandran and Jayalalithaa and during his tenure as well, the demands of the working class were taken into consideration and fulfilled.
He alleged that the DMK in 2021 made several poll promises that it knew it cannot fulfill and came to power. After coming to power, the DMK government has not been considerate towards the genuine demands of the working class, he added.
