All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) on Friday announced that the last date for submission of applications by aspirants for the party tickets to contest in the Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala had been extended to December 31.

Originally, the process was to end on December 23. Extending the last date, the party general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami stated that those interested to contest in the polls could hand over their forms from December 28 to 31.

Meanwhile, two former Ministers C.Ve. Shanmugam, who is now a Rajya Sabha MP, and K. Pandiarajan are contemplating changing their constituencies Mr Shanmugam, who lost in Villupuram in 2021, has planned to move to Mailam from Villupuram, where he suffered a surprise setback in the 2021 Assembly poll. Besides, his native place falls under the constituency of Mailam. During the 2011 election, the then party chief Jayalalithaa fielded him in Villupuram so that he could take on K. Ponmudi, and he came out victorious.

In 2011, Mr Pandiarajan was elected from Virudhunagar on the ticket of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), an ally of the AIADMK, and five years later, from Avadi, this time as the Dravidian major’s nominee. However, he lost in 2021. He is planning to go back to Virudhunagar. Three other constituencies – Anna Nagar, Ambattur and Tiruchendur – are also being considered, apart from Avadi. Early this week, Kovai Sathyan, spokesperson of the party, submitted his form for Mylapore.
