A Christmas celebration in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore was disrupted after a group of men vandalised the decorations and Christmas tree at an event on Thursday (December 25, 2025), just days after similar incidents took place in Jabalpur, officers said.
According to the police, the incident took place on Thursday night during an event at a famous food street, The Hub, under Lasudia police station limits and that an FIR will soon be filed in the matter. A purported video of the incident
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Addl. DCP), Crime, Rajesh Dandotiya told The Hindu that no complaint has been received in the matter but the police have taken self cognisance of the incident and efforts are on to find the event organisers.
“We don’t have a complainant yet and suspects are yet to be identified too. We are working on that and will initiate legal action as per preliminary investigation,” he said.
The viral video shows two men tearing down a Christmas tree and throwing away decoration items even as many in the mob chanted religious slogans like “Jai Siya Ram”. A woman, standing on a nearby stage, is heard urging the men to not destroy the decoration.
“Please, don’t destroy it. It’s someone’s hard work. I didn’t say no for chanting slogans or anything else,” the woman is heard saying on the mic.
On December 22, a group of right-wing activists led by a woman BJP leader created ruckus at a Christmas prayer meeting at a church in Jabalpur. A video from the incident showed BJP’s Jabalpur city unit vice-president Anju Bhargava verbally abusing a visually-impaired woman and trying to assault her while alleging that religious conversions were taking place there.
After the video went viral, the city unit of the BJP issued a show-cause notice to Ms. Bhargava.
In another incident on December 20, members of some Hindutva outfits allegedly clashed with the organisers of a Christmas lunch programme for students in Jabalpur’s Gorakhpur area while making accusations of religious conversions.
The two incidents prompted the local police to amp up security in the city amid the festive season, while the District organisation launched an inquiry into the lunch programme and the organising group.
