1. Mysuru Dasara: Display of tiger using 2,983 drones has set Guinness record, says CESC

The drone show held at Torchlight Parade Ground in Bannimantap in Mysuru on September 28 evening not only enthralled the crowd, but also earned an entry into the Guinness Book of World Records for creating an artwork of a tiger using 2,983 drones. The earlier record stood for creation of an artwork of a tiger using 1,985 drones.

Munigopal Raju, Managing Director of Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC), which conducted the drone show as part of the Dasara festival, said a decision was taken to increase the number of drones deployed for the show from 1,500 used in 2024 to 3,000 this year.

The drone show also comprised images of the solar system, world map, an Indian soldier, peacock, dolphin, eagle, Lord Krishna dancing on a serpent, ‘Mother Cauvery’, map of Karnataka along with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D. K. Shivakumar, besides the map of Karnataka with five guarantee schemes, Ambari elephant, and Goddess Chamundeshwari.

2. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah slams BJP’s ‘double standard’ on Social and Education Survey in Karnataka

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on September 29, 2025, came down heavily on State BJP leaders for opposing the ongoing Social and Educational Survey, terming their stance “self-contradictory and politically motivated.”

In a strongly-worded statement, the Chief Minister said that the exercise being conducted by the Karnataka State Backward Classes Commission is “not confined to any caste or religion” but covers the entire population of nearly seven crore people in Karnataka.

“This is not against anyone, it is for everyone. The purpose is to ensure social, economic, and educational equality by giving equal share and opportunities to all,” he said.

3. Katti family retains power cooperative in Hukkeri taluk of Belagavi district

The self-respect panel led by Ramesh Katti and former minister A. B. Patil won all the 15 seats in the elections to the Rural Electric Co-operative Society Limited in Hukkeri in Belagavi district of Karnataka on September 29. The Katti family has been heading the society since the 1980s.

This was the first election in 25 years, as there was no contest in all the earlier five polls. The elections on September 28 were a bitterly-fought contest between one panel led by the Katti family and another by Anna Saheb Jolle in alliance with the Jarkiholi brothers.

4. Kannada playwright, actor, director Yashwanth Sardeshpande is no more

Playwright, actor and director Yashwanth Sardeshpande (60), known for his comedy plays, passed away in Bengaluru on September 29. According to family sources, he died of cardiac arrest at a private hospital in Bengaluru. He is survived by wife Malati (also an actor) and their daughter.

Born in Ukkali of Basavana Bagewadi taluk of Vijayapura district, Yashwanth’s interest in theatre from childhood took him to Ninasam theatre school in Heggodu. After the initial days of struggle in theatre, Yashwanth established a repertory ‘Guru Samsthe’ in Hubballi. He shot to fame with ‘All The Best’, a play translated from Marathi.
