An Assistant Superintendent at the Kannur District Jail was allegedly assaulted by a prisoner, prompting the jail authorities to file a complaint with the Town police station.
The officer, N. Anas, sustained serious injuries in the incident that occurred last Wednesday. According to the complaint, the inmate, identified as Rahul, verbally abused and physically assaulted the officer.
Rahul, a POCSO case accused from Elathur in Kozhikode, was lodged in the first block of the jail. The alleged assault followed his demand to be shifted to another cell.
