Over 5 tonnes of banned tobacco products destroyed in Cuddalore

More than five tonnes of banned tobacco products seized in various cases across Cuddalore district were destroyed on Sunday (May 10, 2026) following a court order.

According to the police, a total of 5,714.5 kg of banned tobacco products, including gutkha, seized in 23 cases registered at different police stations in the district were disposed of under the supervision of Superintendent of Police S. Jeyakumar.

The contraband, banned by the State government, was buried and destroyed safely in accordance with legal procedures.

Officials from the Food Safety Department, municipal sanitation wing, the Deputy Superintendent of Police, and personnel from the police stations concerned were present during the destruction process.
