The Telangana government has vested the Employees Health Care Trust (EHCT) with full powers to administer and manage the Employees Health Scheme (EHS) for government employees, pensioners and their eligible dependents, following the reconstitution of the Trust’s Board of Trustees.

In an order issued on Thursday, the Health, Medical and Family Welfare Department said the reconstituted Board comprises representatives of government employees’ associations and pensioners’ associations. The order follows the recent implementation of a 1.5% contribution to the EHS fund from the basic pay of serving employees and the basic pension of retirees.

The government said the Board of Trustees would henceforth exercise all powers and discharge responsibilities relating to the implementation, administration, management and operation of the Employees Health Scheme.

The Board has been directed to ensure that EHS funds are utilised strictly in accordance with the Trust Deed, rules and existing guidelines, exclusively for the benefit of member employees, pensioners and their eligible dependents.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Employees Health Care Trust has been instructed to take necessary steps for implementing the order.
