The Centre is aiming to increase the annual revenue growth of India Post to ₹4,000 crore by next year as part of a massive modernisation and expansion drive, says Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar.

India Post’s annual revenue, which earlier stood at around ₹200 crore, now touched ₹2,000 crore, Dr. Chandra Sekhar said on Thursday.

The Union Minister was speaking at the inauguration of the modernised Nehru Place Post Office in New Delhi, a release issued by his office in Guntur said. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia were present.

“India Post is being transformed into a national movement under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and is playing a crucial role in achieving the Viksit Bharat-2047 vision,” Dr. Chandra Sekhar said. India Post was no longer confined to letters and parcels, but emerged as a centre for financial inclusion, digital services, governance and citizen services. Stating that institutions that fail to embrace change would become mere monuments, he said the Centre was determined to transform India Post into a people-centric organisation.

Highlighting the reforms introduced under the leadership of Mr. Jyotiraditya Scindia, he said the Centre had taken up ₹5,000-crore worth IT infrastructure modernisation works. UPI integration, OTP-based delivery systems and real-time SMS tracking services were introduced across post offices, he added.

He said 24-hour and 48-hour speed post services had been launched in six major metro cities, while working hours of post offices were extended nationwide.
