The Kottayam District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has directed The New India Assurance Company to pay insurance benefits and compensation to a woman whose husband died in a road accident.
In its order, the commission directed the insurer to pay ₹15 lakh under the personal accident cover, ₹1 lakh as compensation, and ₹2,500 towards legal costs. The ruling came on a complaint filed by V.N. Shijimol, wife of the late Shibu, along with their children Shivananda and Gaurinanda. Shibu died in a motorcycle accident at Ettumanur on February 28, 2020 and the complaint was filed on December 3, 2025, after the insurance claim was rejected.
