A cook from Bihar working in a hotel in Sagar, in Shivamogga district of Karnataka, was allegedly murdered by the owner and others on April 2.

The deceased has been identified as Tinku, 33, a native of Baliyari village in Bihar. He had been working as a cook at Rooftop Cafe and Games Zone on Shivamogga Road in Sagar.

Mohammed Imran, owner of the hotel, allegedly assaulted Tinku and his 17-year-relative, who was working in the hotel as a cleaner, on April 1 night, after accusing the duo of stealing money from the hotel. Tinku lost consciousness following the assault.

Shivamogga Superintendent of Police B. Nikhil, who visited Sagar following the incident, told the media that the accused put Tinku in a car and drove around the city, unsure of what to do next. “By early April 2 morning, our staff had received information about the incident. They seized the car and the body, besides arresting Imran. We are investigating who else was involved in the crime”, said the officer.

Sagar Town police registered a case based on a complaint filed by Tinku’s relative. He has named Mohammed Imran and four others as accused.
