Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who attended the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in New Delhi on Saturday, has not been able to hold talks on the possible Cabinet reshuffle and other State-related issues with Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, and returned to the State.

Both spoken to

However, sources in the Congress maintained that the senior functionary in the AICC has spoken to both Mr. Siddaramaiah and his deputy D.K. Shivakumar, and told them to be prepared to visit the nation capital after January 6, 2026, for discussions to related to the proposed leadership change, the cabinet reshuffle and the change of KPCC chief.

Sources maintained that the members of the Sonia Gandhi family are expected to tour abroad at the end of this year, and this has caused postponement of talks between the State Congress leaders and the high command.

Protest in Karnataka

Meanwhile, in a release, the Chief Minister said the Congress has decided to launch a protest in the State from January 5 as a part of the nationwide stir, opposing the newly enacted Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G Ram G) by the NDA government.

The CWC, in its meeting, the Chief Minister said, has decided to protect the UPA-era rural job guarantee law. The MGNREGA Bachao Abhiyan (Save MGNREGA programme) will be held from January 5 next year, arguing that the BJP government will have to face people’s anger as the new law is aimed at “taking money away from the poor and handing it to industrialists”.

The Congress Working Committee meeting was chaired by party chief Mallikarjun Kharge and attended by senior leaders, including Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi.

Meanwhile, a handful of people on Saturday staged a demonstration in front of Congress headquarters in New Delhi demanding that a Dalit be appointed as Karnataka’s Chief Minister. The banner held by the protesters had an image of Home Minister G. Parameshwara.
