The Vijayawada Railway Division recorded a strong performance in Financial Year 2025-26 with the highest-ever freight loading of 40.631 Million Tons and the highest gross revenue of ₹5,907.20 crore, with the passenger revenue reaching ₹1,523.90 crore.

The freight loading in the year has surpassed the previous record of 38.347 MT, while passenger revenue collected was at a 9.93% growth.

The division transported 74.191 million passengers during the year, and in spite of extending concessional freight benefits to the power sector, it earned ₹4,166 crore from freight operations, according to Divisional Railway Manager Mohit Sonakiya.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Mr. Sonakiya said ticket checking earnings grossed a record ₹76.34 crore. The division achieved its best-ever punctuality of 86.74%.

Infrastructure development

He said on the infrastructure front, significant strides were made in capacity augmentation and modernisation. Over 152.54 km of automatic block signalling and 50.051 km of third line were commissioned. Speed improvements up to 110 kmph were achieved in key sections, while work on the 2×25 kV traction system that would support speeds of up to 160 kmph was progressing.

Mr. Sonakiya said that the division successfully managed heavy passenger traffic during festivals such as Dussehra, Diwali, Chhath Puja, and Sankranti, ensuring smooth operations. A total of 5,207 special trains were operated, including pilgrim specials, while the Vijayawada-Chennai Vande Bharat Express service was extended to Narasapur. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) recorded significant achievements in safety and security.

Further, the DRM said engineering works focused on safety and reliability, including the renewal of over 168 km of rails and the strengthening of 31 bridges. Several speed restrictions were removed to improve operational efficiency. Notably, the Nidubrolu-Appikatla section, which had long been under speed restrictions for over three decades, has now been cleared of these constraints, resulting in the easing of a major operational bottleneck.
