Tension prevailed for a while as broken pieces of bottles were allegedly thrown from a high-rise building during an election campaign meeting of TVK candidate and party general secretary (election campaign management) Aadhav Arjuna at Villivakkam on Tuesday evening.

Sources said the bottle pieces were allegedly thrown by unidentified persons from a nearby building when TVK functionary Nanjil Sambath was addressing the gathering. A bottle piece reportedly hit a woman, following which she was administered first aid, sources said.

Mr. Arjuna, who was on the stage at the time, threatened to stage a sit-in protest if police did not take action against those responsible. He claimed that members of a rival political party were involved in the act. In a statement, party general secretary N. Anand condemned the incident. The police have detained one person in connection with the incident.
