While Swami Vivekananda lived only for 39 years, he left behind a legacy of 150 years as his teachings continue to inspire the youth, said Shithi Kanthananda, assistant secretary at Ramakrishna Math.
Participating in a programme organised by the Department of Youth Services at Thummalapalli Kalakshetram in Vijayawada on Monday to mark the 163rd birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, celebrated as the National Youth Day, Swami Kanthananda urged youth to follow the teachings of Swami Vivekananda and work towards developing their personality.
Urging everyone to make meditation a habit and strengthen their power of resolve, Swami Kanthananda said instead of using internet for entertainment, one should use it as a platform to acquire new skills.
Youth Services department Deputy Director S.V.D.S. Ramakrishna said across 26 districts in the State, essay writing, quizzes, and debate competitions were conducted, and winners were presented with mementos and certificates. He added that 80 people from the State are taking part in the National Youth Festival being held in New Delhi. Later, appreciation certificates were presented to winners of competitions held in Krishna and NTR districts.
District Education Officer Madhubhushan, Skill Development Officer Srinivasa Rao, Red Cross members, and students from various colleges, National Service Scheme and National Cadet Corps took part in the programme.
