A youth working at the Telugu Desam Party office in Srikakulam, G. Mohana Rao, died following a brawl with a group of youngsters late on Thursday night.

According to the police, Mohana Rao had cautioned his nephew, Hareesh, against associating with some youths from Mahalakshmi Nagar, citing concerns over their behaviour and the fact that their names figured in police rowdy sheets.

The incident occurred near Mandala Street when Mohana Rao was returning home from Narasannapeta, where the TDP had organised a meeting on the occasion of Ugadi. The youths from Mahalakshmi Nagar, including G. Manohar, reportedly took strong objection to Mohana Rao’s remarks, leading to an altercation on the street.

Meanwhile, Hareesh is also said to have objected to Mohana Rao’s comments during the argument. In the ensuing brawl, Mohana Rao sustained a head injury after falling from his bike.

Family members, who were alerted about the incident, rushed him to RIMS Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. Mohana Rao’s father, G. Ramana, who had also worked at the TDP office, passed away two years ago. The deaths of both father and son have caused deep distress to the family.

The police have registered a case and taken a few youths into custody to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the brawl and Mohana Rao’s death.
