The Electronics City police have registered a case against unknown persons for allegedly stealing 10 UPS batteries used for traffic signals, streetlights, and surveillance cameras in the Electronics City area in the early hours of February 25.

According to the complaint filed by S.R. Jayachandra, a supervisor working for a private company engaged in maintenance of these utilities, six UPS batteries had been kept in an iron box near Hokel Company Road, and four batteries were placed along the roadside near Sharathpura Main Road.

In the early hours of February 25, around 3 a.m., the streetlights, cameras, and traffic signals installed in the area suddenly stopped functioning. Technicians were called to inspect the system around 7.30 a.m., during which it was discovered that all ten UPS batteries were missing. Suspecting theft, the company officials verified the matter with their senior management before approaching the Electronics City Police Station to lodge a complaint. The police have registered a case and are investigating the theft.

This is the second incident, as traffic signal batteries were stolen on February 9, involving six batteries from Hosa Road and Konappana Agrahara junctions. These thefts, often by organised groups selling them as scrap, cause significant traffic disruption and damage, with previous cases including the theft of 230 batteries worth ₹20 lakh.
