Srikakulam district administration is keen to complete the Vamsadhara Lift Irrigation Scheme by April, 2026, so that the water would be supplied to agriculture fields by the next kharif season, according to Srikakulam Collector Swapnil Dinakar Pundkar.

Along with irrigation officials, he recently visited the project site located in Hiramandalam and interacted with irrigation and revenue officials who in turn assured him that the works would be completed within a few weeks. The Vamsadhara LIS is expected to benefit over one lakh acres of land and provide drinking water facility for nearly 1500 villages. The District Collector said that canals and distributory network would also be created for the smooth flow of water till tail-end areas.

He said that the project would also be developed as a tourist spot as many people are eager to visit the site. He said that the government is giving equal priority for Tamara Lift Irrigation Scheme that has been proposed to utilise Mahendratanaya river water for both irrigation and drinking water needs. He said that around 3,850 acres of land would get assured water with the proposed lift irrigation scheme. He hoped that it would benefit thousands of farmers living in and and around the project.
