Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday inaugurated the restored Nalla Cheruvu lake in Kukatpally, and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to urban lake conservation and flood resilience across Hyderabad. “It is now or never,” he said about the choice of progress over creating hurdles.

He also announced plans to provide women with stalls at restored tank sites and develop children’s playgrounds along the banks.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said development funds would be extended to all Assembly constituencies under Malkajgiri, irrespective of political affiliations. “Our policy is to take development and welfare forward regardless of politics,” he stated.

Reflecting on the lake restoration drive, Mr. Revanth Reddy acknowledged that the initiative had drawn criticism, but said the smiles on residents’ faces upon seeing the rejuvenated Nalla Cheruvu had vindicated the effort.

The Chief Minister assured people still living on the fringes of tanks and canals that the government intended no injustice to the poor and would work to rehabilitate affected families.

Calling for the preservation of natural water bodies to counter problems facing megacities, Mr. Revanth Reddy outlined an ambitious agenda of restoring all tanks in the core urban region, clearing canal encroachments, cleaning the Musi, and expanding roads to make Hyderabad a model city.
