Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said the Congress should seek power only with public consent, even as he alleged that the BJP attempts to create divisions and spread hatred to capture power.

He called upon party leaders to remain vigilant and counter such efforts of the BJP to safeguard the country. Congress leaders should uphold the party’s core principles of non-violence, peace and the pursuit of truth, while working tirelessly among the people.

Addressing the valedictory session of the District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents’ training camp in Vikarabad, Mr. Gandhi said the Congress was founded on the ideals of truth and harmony, and leaders must constantly strive to practice these values in public life.

Mr. Gandhi stressed that equality remains central to the Congress ideology. “The party must function without discrimination based on caste, religion, class or gender,” he said. Calling on leaders to shed arrogance, he said the party must work for the people and draw its strength from them.

He advised DCC presidents to treat their positions as responsibilities rather than attractions of power. “Work for strengthening the party and for the people. If you perform well, you can rise to any level of leadership,” he assured.

Speaking at the meeting, DCC presidents pledged to tour at least 30 villages every month and engage directly with people. They announced plans to set up grievance cells at DCC offices to address public complaints.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud described the 10-day intensive training programme for DCC presidents as historic. He said that following Mr. Rahul Gandhi’s vision, the party in Telangana has accorded significant priority to Backward Classes (BCs).

He said the Congress demonstrated its commitment to BCs by giving substantial representation in panchayats, municipalities and corporations. Significant representation was also given to BC leaders in the appointment of DCC presidents.

AICC general secretary K.C. Venugopal, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, AICC incharge for Telangana Meenakshi Natarajan and AICC secretary (organisation) Vamshichand Reddy also participated.
