Efforts to resolve the ongoing indefinite strike carried out by the doctors in Government Medical Colleges across the State ended in a nought on Monday, even though the Kerala Government Medical College Teachers’ Association (KGMCTA) met with the Chief Minister as well as the Ministers of Health and Finance separately.

KGMCTA later said that apart from reiterating the sad financial plight of government and pointing towards “legal hurdles” that are standing in the way of paying pay revision arrears to doctors, no assurances had been given to the doctors regarding the demands they had raised.

The strike boycotting all outpatient as well as inpatient care services and non-emergency surgeries which entered the eighth day on Monday, will continue.

However, a final decision on the strike and how to take the doctors’ protests forward, will be taken at a meeting of the central executive committee of KGMCTA, being held later during the day.
