Telangana police achieved a huge success in its anti-Maoist operations with the reported surrender of Devji, also known as Tippiri Tirupati, along with a few others in Asifabad district on Sunday (February 22, 2026).

However, the police are yet to officially confirm the surrender, and the surrendered leaders are likely to be presented before the media in a couple of days.

Devji is believed to have taken over as the Maoist general secretary after the encounter of Nambala Keshava Rao. His surrender comes in the wake of Centra government fixing Mach 31 as the deadline to end the insurgency of Maoists after the launching Operation Kagar.

Devji’s surrender is considered to be a major achievement for Telangana police since many senior Maoists from Telangana heading the organisation across the nation recently surrendered in neighbouring Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh rather than Telangana.

Devji, who hails from the combined Karimnagar district, is believed to have taken over as the general secretary of CPI (Maoists) after Nambala Keshava Rao was killed in a police encounter in May 2025.

Telangana DGP B Shivdhar Reddy has recently offered safety and reward for Maoists surrendering before the police, as announced by the government.
