The YSR Congress Party on Friday (April 10, 2026) hit back at Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Y.S. Sharmila Reddy for calling her brother and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy a ‘joker’ over his ‘MAVIGUN’ capital proposal, saying the State would soon recognise him as a ‘mentor’ for proposing a cost-effective capital region.

A week ago, Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy proposed ‘MAVIGUN’ (Machilipatnam-Vijayawada-Guntur) as the State capital, calling it a cost-effective alternative to the capital region proposed at Amaravati. The proposal drew criticism from the ruling NDA Alliance and on social media, but the YSRCP called it an attempt to belittle what it termed a ‘well thought out’ proposal.
