A day after a five-year-old was seriously injured in a dog bite incident in Khairatabad, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation staffers rounded up 15 dogs from the area, and shifted them to a shelter home.

All the dogs were found sterilised, including the one that attacked the girl, officials from GHMC informed. The usual protocol in such cases is to subject the dogs to ABC-ARV protocol which involves sterilising the dogs and administering the anti-rabies vaccine.

Officials informed that the dog which attacked the girl will be confined to the shelter for good, while the other dogs will be kept under observation for a few days, to identify traits of aggression.

A video clip that went viral showed the girl P. Sharvi, resident of Srinivasa Nagar in Khairatabad, running across the road when the dog coming in the opposite direction suddenly pounced on her. The girl sustained a deep laceration on her face, and got admitted in a private hospital.

Veterinary team constituting the Deputy Director, Assistant Director and veterinary officers of the Khairatabad zone visited the area after the incident. Dog catching teams were deployed in the area soon after.

The team of officers along with health officials from the Municipal Surveillance Unit visited the child on Wednesday, and enquired about her condition. She has been administered the anti-rabies vaccine, and the wound was being sutured, a note from GHMC informed.

Further, the Assistant Medical Officer, Health, of Khairatabad circle, has been informed of the incident for necessary follow-up and further treatment measures, it said.
