HYDERABAD

Ahead of the municipal elections, BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao has asked the party rank and file to put up a united front to secure a massive victory, by exposing Congress Government’s ‘failures’ over the last two years.

Speaking after welcoming two-time former MLA from Wardhannapet in combined Warangal district Aroori Ramesh, along with his supporters, back into BRS on Wednesday, he alleged that the Congress Government had neither the time nor the intention to care for people and “abandoned all the promises made” before coming to power.

Expressing confidence in the people of Telangana, Mr. Rama Rao said citizens would teach Congress a fitting lesson and stand firmly with BRS in the upcoming elections. He appealed to party workers not only to focus on the municipal elections but also to prepare for every forthcoming poll by strengthening support for the pink flag and the car symbol, with the aim of bringing K. Chandrasekhar Rao back as Chief Minister.

Mr. Ramesh rejoined BRS after quitting Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which he joined just before the Lok Sabha elections early in 2024. He was welcomed back into the party by senior leaders T. Harish Rao, E. Dayakar Rao, Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, Satyavathi Rathod. Mr. Ramesh termed his return to BRS as home coming.

Mr. Rama Rao alleged that the Congress Government was trying to escape accountability by citing debt figures of the BRS rule. While agencies such as the Central Government, the Reserve Bank of India and the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) had indicated that debt levels were only nominal. He claimed that the Congress Government was inflating figures and presenting misleading accounts.

Questioning the current administration, he sought to know whether even a single major development project was launched with the ₹2.5 lakh crore borrowed over the last two years. He demanded that the government disclose where this money was spent.
