GMR Aero Cargo and Logistics on Tuesday announced the launch of India’s first-of-its-kind airside reefer truck at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA). This move will strengthen cold-chain integrity for temperature-sensitive cargo during airside operations.
The vehicle has been engineered to maintain uninterrupted temperature control during the movement of cargo between the terminal and aircraft, eliminating exposure during ramp transfers. This has long been a challenge in the transportation of perishables, pharmaceuticals and biological products.
The reefer truck supports a temperature range from +2°C to +25°C and is designed to handle a wide range of commodities including medicines, fresh fruits and vegetables, flowers, seafood, dairy products, meat and other perishables requiring precise thermal conditions, the company said in a release.
Built on a Tata chassis with a payload capacity of 10 tonnes, the vehicle features a 22 feet x 9 feet x 6.6 feet insulated internal box equipped with advanced PUF insulation. It can accommodate two lower-deck unit load devices, improving operational efficiency by reducing the number of trips required during aircraft loading.
“By ensuring unbroken cold-chain integrity from the terminal to aircraft, we are setting new standards in perishable and pharmaceutical logistics and demonstrating our dedication to supporting India’s growing role as a global pharma manufacturing and perishable hub,” said Pradeep Panicker, CEO of GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited.
