Deputy Commissioner Kumar presiding over a meeting on replacing conventional streetlights with energy-efficient LED lights in Mandya on Thursday.

Mandya Deputy Commissioner Kumar on Thursday said Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in Mandya district currently spend around ₹15 crore annually on streetlight electricity bills, and that the proposed LED streetlight conversion project is expected to reduce power consumption by about 58%, resulting in annual savings of ₹7–8 crore.

Presiding over a district-level meeting on the Centralised Control and Monitoring System (CCMS)-based streetlight operation and maintenance project in Mandya, he said replacing conventional streetlights with energy-efficient LED lights would significantly improve energy efficiency, reduce maintenance costs and ensure longer service life.

Dr. Kumar directed officials to replace conventional streetlights with LED lights across eight Urban Local Bodies in the district.

Under the project, 15,593 conventional streetlights will be replaced with LED lights, while 8,500 new LED streetlights will be installed in urban areas. The project also includes maintenance of the streetlights for seven years.

He said smart meters will be installed to monitor the streetlight network and that a CCMS will be implemented to obtain real-time operational data on the functioning of streetlights.

Dr. Kumar instructed project consultants, officials of CESC, and Urban Local Body representatives to review the detailed project plan and ensure effective implementation of the initiative.

District Urban Development Cell Project Officer T.N. Narasimhamurthy and Executive Engineer Pratap were present at the meeting.
