Krishna river water will be available for the people in the kidney-disease affected areas of Tiruvuru, A. Konduru and Gampalagudem in NTR district by January-end, announced District Collector G. Lakshmisha.

Speaking at a nutritional kit distribution programme organised by Kesineni Foundation at the Zilla Parishad School in A. Konduru mandal on Saturday, the Collector explained that few repair works were under way, for which additional funds of ₹350 crore was required. Once these are completed, every household will receive Krishna river water for drinking purposes in the disease-affected areas, the Collector said.

Mr. Lakshmisha also pointed out that special teams of health workers were formed to identify people with symptoms of kidney ailments and that nephrologist services, medical assistance and medicines were being provided to them.

Later, Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath briefed about development works being taken up in the Tiruvuru Assembly constituency. The construction of a bridge over Kattaleru stream in Gampalagudem mandal, a long-pending demand, will begin in April and Detailed Project Reports have been completed, he added.

He also said efforts were being made to open a Navodaya School in Tiruvuru and that central lighting system will be installed on the national highway, between Ibrahimpatnam and Tiruvuru. For improving the drinking water supply system within Tiruvuru Municipality limits, ₹140 crore has been sanctioned and works will begin soon, he said. For the construction of roads, ₹32 crore has been sanctioned, he added.

On the occasion, nutritional kits comprising 11 types of food items were distributed to 650 people. The kits are distributed every month to people suffering from kidney ailments, the MP said. District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) M. Suhasini and mandal-level officers were present in the programme.
