The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) on Friday alleged that there were discrepancies in the database of electors of Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni Assembly constituency in Chennai [which is being represented by Udhayanidhi Stalin in the House].

Out of 220 booths in the constituency, the party, in the last month, carried out verification of electors covered under 15 booths. It found 1,722 electors, whose names figured in the electoral rolls, were not “physically present” at the mentioned addresses. While 553 of them had died, 1,136 had shifted their residences with 33 double entries, according to the AIADMK’s spokesperson, M. Kovai Sathyan.

In a petition addressed to Chennai Collector Rashmi Siddharth Zagade, the AIADMK’s secretary for the South Chennai-North (east) district unit Aadi Rajaram, contended that booth level officers, when approached by the party about the electors in questions, had responded, saying that they were not aware of the details. Officials concerned had not been taking up “field inspections properly,” leading to the discrepancies.

Mr. Sathyan, who accompanied his party colleague at the time of submission of the petition, recalled the deletion of electors in large numbers from the rolls with respect to R.K. Nagar Assembly constituency in 2017. In November that year, the Election Commission conceded before the Madras High Court that it had deleted 45,819 voters from the list.
