A team of foreign experts carried out an on-site inspection of the Polavaram Project on Monday to review the progress of ongoing construction works. The experts Sean Hinchberger, David B. Paul and Gianfranco De Cicco arrived at the project site in the morning and were received by Water Resources Department Engineer-in-Chief K. Narasimha Murthy, Chief Engineer K. Ramachandra Rao, MEIL General Manager A. Gangadhar and Deputy General Manager Murali Pammi. This was the sixth visit of the international expert team to the Polavaram Project site.
Officials from various wings of the Central Water Commission accompanied the team, including Sarabjit Singh Bakshi, Manish Rathore, Gaurav Tiwari and Hemant Gautam. Also present were CSMRS officials Manish Gupta and Ravi Agarwal, CWPRS representative V. S. Ramarao, Polavaram Project Authority Member-Secretary M. Raghuram, Director K. Shankar and NIRM Director Ajay Kumar Naitani. The experts reviewed the progress of major components such as Gap-1, D Hill, Gap-2, G Hill, upstream and downstream portions of the main dam, the D-wall, dewatering channel, rock fill zones and clay stockpiles. Government Advisor A. Venkateswara Rao, along with senior engineering officials and MEIL representatives, briefed the team on the status of works.
The visiting experts examined each component in detail, raised queries and sought clarifications on technical aspects. After the site inspection, they held a meeting with project officials and construction agency representatives to discuss the progress of works, ongoing challenges and key issues related to execution.
