In a major administrative reform aimed at improving policing and crime control, the Telangana government has reorganised the police system in and around the State Capital region by creating four police commissionerates while the existing Rachakonda Commissionerate has been changed.

Three Commissionerates restructured

The earlier three commissionerates have been restructured, leading to the formation of Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Malkajgiri, and Future City Commissionerates. As part of this restructuring, Bhuvanagiri district has been excluded from the commissionerate limits and will function as a separate district police unit.

Key and sensitive locations such as the State Assembly, Secretariat, Begumpet, Shamshabad Airport, and the new High Court to come up at Budvel have been brought under the Hyderabad Police Commissionerate.

Rapidly developing IT hubs, including Gachibowli, Financial District, Nanakramguda, Madhapur, and Raidurg, along with industrial areas such as Patancheru, Genome Valley, Ramachandrapuram, and Ameenpur, will fall under the Cyberabad Commissionerate.

Malkajgiri Commissionerate

The existing Rachakonda Commissionerate has been reorganised and renamed as the Malkajgiri Commissionerate. Malkajgiri zone consists of Malkajgiri, Nacharam, Uppal, Medipally, Ghatkesar, Pocharam IT Corridor, Kushaiguda, Neredmet, Jawaharnagar, Keesara, and Cherlapally. Bhuvanagiri, which earlier fell under Rachakonda limits, has been carved out as a separate police unit, and a Superintendent of Police (SP) has been appointed for the Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district.

Officials said the Chief Minister Revanth Reddy decided to restructure the commissionerates considering the rapid growth of the proposed Future City. Regions including Chevella, Moinabad, Shankarpally, Maheshwaram, and Ibrahimpatnam have been brought under its jurisdiction.

The decision follows the reorganisation of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the inclusion of the emerging Future City region. The government recently unveiled its Vision 2047 document at the Telangana Rising Global Summit held in December.

Commissioners appointed

The government also issued formal orders appointing Police Commissioners for all four commissionerates and an SP for Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district.

According to the government order, Rachakonda Police Commissioner G. Sudheer Babu has been transferred and posted as Commissioner of Police, Future City — the newly-created commissionerate. Commissioner of Police, Cyberabad, Avinash Mohanty has been posted as Commissioner of Police, Malkajgiri.
