The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is deliberately sabotaging the Kodakara hawala case to protect BJP functionaries implicated in it, alleged CPI District Secretary K.G. Shivanandan.

“The demand that the ED investigate the Kodakara hawala case was raised by the CPI from the very beginning. We had insisted that a Special Investigation Team appointed by the State government probe the case, and that it be tried in a special court under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. It was also recommended that the case be brought under the ED’s purview for a comprehensive probe and strict action against the guilty,” he said.

However, Mr. Shivanandan charged that once the ED took over, the investigation became superficial and compromised.

“ED did not conduct the probe in the proper manner. The roles of BJP Alappuzha district general secretary Gopalakrishnan Kartha and former Thrissur district treasurer Sujaisenan were already exposed publicly by Tirur Satheeshan, then secretary of the BJP Thrissur district office, during a press conference. In a case with around 130 witnesses, the ED did not even bother to record the statements of these crucial individuals,” he said.

The CPI leader alleged that the agency’s intentions became clear the moment it ignored key testimonies.

“ED has completed the investigation without observing necessary procedural requirements and has now submitted a report that weakens the case to the point where it cannot stand in a special court. This is a calculated attempt to shield the real culprits,” Shivanandan said.

Calling the ED’s move “a challenge to the judicial system,” he accused the agency of functioning as a tool of the BJP.

“The so-called investigation is nothing but a farce, and it will soon be exposed in the special court. The public must recognise this deliberate sabotage,” he said.
