Actor-turned-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on Tuesday approached the Election Commission of India (ECI) seeking the allotment of an election symbol to the party under the provisions of the Election Symbols (Reservation and Allotment) Order, 1968, to face the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

The party’s joint general secretary C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar submitted a list of preferred symbols to the ECI in New Delhi.

“We have submitted a list of 10 symbols. Our list includes seven symbols that are already available in the list of free symbols. We have also submitted three self created symbols for the consideration of the ECI and requested them to allot any one of them for the upcoming polls,” said K.G. Arunraj, TVK general secretary (policy and propaganda).

The next year’s Assembly election will mark the party’s electoral debut. Although the party was launched on February 2, 2024, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, it chose to stay away from the parliamentary polls and also refrained from contesting the Vilavancode, Vikravandi, and Erode East Assembly by-elections held in 2024 and 2025.
