Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu emphasised that the reorganization of districts in Andhra Pradesh must ensure administrative convenience and fulfill the aspirations of the people.

Chairing a review meeting with the Cabinet sub-committee on district reorganization at the Secretariat on Tuesday (October 28), the Chief Minister directed officials and ministers to resolve issues that arose from the previous government’s unscientific district formation and to ensure that no new complications arise.

The Chief Minister noted that a seven-member Cabinet sub-committee had been constituted on July 22 to review the matter. The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and Ministers Anagani Satyaprasad, Narayana, Nadendla Manohar, Satyakumar, Anitha, Nimmala Rama Naidu, and B.C. Janardhan Reddy. The ministers informed the Chief Minister that a preliminary report had been prepared after consulting district collectors, local public representatives, and the general public.

Mr. Naidu criticized the previous government’s unplanned decisions, stating that they had caused regional disparities and ignored public opinion.  The reorganization should take into account future delimitation of Assembly constituencies and that revenue divisions should be restructured accordingly. The  officials have to study the situation of submerged villages after the completion of the Polavaram project to determine their appropriate inclusion in revenue divisions and constituencies, he said.

Highlighting the long-pending demand for the creation of Markapur district, the Chief Minister said it would be considered as part of the reorganization process. Mr. Naidu stated that the Cabinet sub-committee would meet again within a week to continue discussions on the proposals based on inputs and observations received during this review.
