In a tragic accident, three students were killed after a speeding tipper lorry lost control and rammed into a bus stop at Nileshwaram in Kottarakara in Kollam district of Kerala on Tuesday (June 23, 2026) morning.

The lorry, which was heavily loaded with sand, overturned completely upon impact. Eyewitnesses said that the vehicle was traveling at an excessive speed before the driver lost control.

The victims were waiting for a bus near a wall when the accident took place. The out-of-control lorry crashed into the wall and overturned, dumping sand onto the waiting commuters. Several people were instantly trapped underneath the thick pile of earth.

Local residents and Fire and Rescue Services personnel rushed to the spot and are jointly carrying out an intensive rescue operation. It is reported that there were around 10 people at the bus stop at the time of the accident, including seven children. The driver of the tipper lorry also sustained serious injuries in the crash.

Rescue teams are currently clearing the debris and digging through the sand to determine if more people are trapped underneath.
