Exactly a month after the stampede at Karur that claimed 41 lives during a political rally addressed by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay on September 27, the actor-turned-politician is scheduled to meet the families of the victims on Monday (October 27, 2025) at a private hall in Mamallapuram.

A top-level TVK leader confirmed to The Hindu that Mr. Vijay would meet the bereaved families on Monday morning. The event would be held in a closed-door format, where Mr. Vijay would interact with the family members and offer his condolences, the party leader said.

Party sources said the decision to hold the meeting outside Karur was due to logistical issues and security concerns. Earlier, the party had planned to hold the event in Karur and had been looking for a suitable location to make arrangements for the meeting.

On October 8, it had submitted a representation to the Director-General of Police (DGP), seeking permission and security arrangements for Mr. Vijay, who is under Y-category security cover, to visit Karur and meet the families in the second week of October.

However, the DGP’s office directed the party to appoint a representative to coordinate with the Superintendent of Police, Karur district, regarding security protocols and venue arrangements.

Eventually, the party could not identify a suitable location in Karur due to logistical constraints and security concerns, prompting the shift to Mamallapuram, party sources said.

Since the stampede on September 27, party activities have remained suspended. TVK sources said organisational work and public engagements would resume after Mr. Vijay’s meeting with the families of the victims.
