The graveyard in Karkhanagadda of Karimnagar town came alive with the vibrant glow of lamps as several families from the nearby areas and elsewhere in the town celebrated Deepavali at the graveyard displaying their eternal bond with their ancestors and departed loved ones.

A host of families flocked to the graveyard on Monday (October 20, 2025) evening and celebrated the festival of lights in line with a decades-old practice prevalent among certain families of the locality.

They offered a range of home-cooked food items and desserts at the flower-bedecked graves of their ancestors before performing pujas, invoking their blessings.

“The custom has been in vogue for decades and it exemplifies our deep reverence for our ancestors,” says Kamsala Srinivas, a former corporator of Karimnagar Municipal Corporation.

“We decorate the graves of our ancestors with flowers and lit up earthen diyas in front of them followed by food offerings,” he adds.

The grand celebration reaches a crescendo with the bursting of firecrackers illuminating the graveyard with shining glow, he further elaborates.
