A 57-year-old heart patient raped during a diagnostic test at Civil Hospital in Panipat two days ago died at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Rohtak on Tuesday. The accused has already been arrested.

‘She was terminally ill’

The victim’s husband told The Hindu over phone that she was left distraught after the sexual assault. “She was terminally ill and was therefore taken to Panipat Civil Hospital on August 16 where the assault took place. The assault at this age and in this medical condition had impacted her adversely,” he said.

The woman was taken to the hospital after she complained of uneasiness. Doctors suggested an X-ray and CT scan for diagnosis. The operator, later identified as Rakesh, took the woman inside the room for CT scan and allegedly raped her. He also threatened her not to disclose about it to her family.

On regaining consciousness after being wheeled out, she told her husband about her ordeal. A case was then registered at Panipat City police station on charges of rape and criminal intimidation.
